Finding The Beauty In Aging Skin

Bobbie Brown, an American professional make-up artist and author on beauty and wellness said it well:
“I don’t believe in anti-aging products – there is no such thing.”

As an older woman and an aesthetician, I have come to the realization that you can’t reverse or stop the aging process.

So then, what is a man or woman to do in this youth driven society?
As an aesthetician, do I ethically talk with my clients about the anti-aging products I use in my office?  Yes.

This is the truth:
A facial is but a moment in time as it will not erase the years you’ve lived on this earth, nor will it make you look 20 again. But you can achieve radiant skin and when your skin is radiant, aging takes a back seat. Your radiance outshines the wrinkles that you’ve earned walking through life. What people see is your story of life through the glow of your skin.

What will a facial do if it won’t erase the years?
1. A result driven facial is an excellent way to relax while allowing someone to cleanse and prep your skin in order to exfoliate away the dead cell build-up on your most outer layer of skin called the stratum corneum.

Dead skin build-up on the stratum corneum, can be caused by

    • Aging – as cells age, they don’t shed as readily, leading to build-up.
    • Environmental factors like sun damage, dry air, pollution.
    • Poor cleansing and moisturizing habits that can trap dead cells.
    • Harsh soaps and over-exfoliation can damage the skin and disrupt its natural shedding cycle.

2. A good aesthetician will use skilled techniques while applying products that will bring abundant blood flow into your face, thereby delivering oxygen and nutrients to the skin cells.

    • Delivering oxygen and nutrients to skin cells supports healthy skin function and appearance (brightens the skin).
    • It promotes healing, improves skin tone and the skins texture while reducing inflammation.

3. As an aesthetician it is important to suggest a good home-care maintenance regime.

    • It is your responsibility to be consistent.
    • If you do, in time, you will reap the benefits.
    • What a pleasant surprise it will be when people remark on the radiance of your skin.
